Maynard F. Jordan Observatory was first opened in 1901 at what is now the site of the Fogler Library. It was moved to its current location in 1933. The observatory is owned by the University of Maine and is one of the oldest buildings on campus. It is the only public observatory in the State of Maine and is open on clear Friday and Saturday evenings. It is recommended to call ahead at 1(207)581-1348. The main telescope is an eight-inch Alvan Clark refractor. There is a smaller Mogey refractor attached to the side and also a smaller finder scope.
