The hut at Gamle (Old) Reinheim was built by Johan Hjerkinn in 1888. In 1923 it was taken over by DNT (Norvegian Hiking Club) and it served as a mountain hut until 1953, when it was replaced by a new hut at Snøheim.

There is a distinct square platform and several stone cairns (these look like they were raised after the hut has been demolished). At one of the cairns there is a metal plaque with basic information about the history of the place.

The site is accessible by a marked trail leading from Snøheim to Snøhetta (Stortoppen).
