This life size bronze statue depicts the scene of Mary Tyler Moore throwing her hat in the air in the opening credits of her 1970s era TV show. It was filmed at this location in front of Dayton's Dept Store, now Macy's. She is wearing a short dress and coat from the early 70s and boots, and it sits on a marble base. It was dedicated in 2002.

The Mary Tyler Moore show aired from 1970-1977. Mary first became known for her role of Dick Van Dyke's wife on his signature show that aired from 1961-1966. The Mary Tyler Moore show that inspired this statue aired from 1970-1977. Her best known work after her show ended was the 1980 movie Ordinary People, for which she received an Academy Award nomination.

Today she spends most of her time promoting diabetes awareness and animal rights.
