Inscribed on a plaque, mounted on a retaining wall in front of the Cemetery Headquarters building, just inside the gates of the Fort Smith National Cemetery are the famous words spoken by Abraham Lincoln during the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in November 1863.
