This nautical flagpole, set within Queenborough Park, commemorates HMS Wildfire III, a WW2 Royal Naval base that was once just yards from this flagpole, and which operated the all important Minesweeper fleet that protected the Thames Estuary and English Channel by keeping the vital shipping routes clear of enemy mines.
