This monument is located in the center of the lovely village of Vila Nova da Barquinha, in honor for the men fallen during World War I in Europe and Africa, where Portuguese colonial troops fought their German counterparts.
Special emphasis for Soldier António Gonçalves Curado who was the first Portuguese soldier to die during the conflict and who were born in this village. The monument was inaugurated in the 100th anniversary of his birth: 29th September 1994.
