When you think of Alberta you know that the Rocky Mountains along the southwest flank of the province is the area of highest relief in the province. This map shows, in 3D the Rocky Mountains and their tall peaks and deep valleys. It also shows other lesser know areas where there are large hills, almost mountainous in nature such as the Caribou Mountains, Buffalo Head Hills, Cypress Hills, Swan Hills and others that are found across the province.

The maps also include man made features of the urban landscape and the highways that web their way across the province. The Green Area, forested portion of the province, is separated from the White Area or agricultural area of the province.

The concentration of the towns and cities of the province are clearly shown to be in the agricultural area of the province. Other large centres in the Green Area are associated with resource development.

The horizontal scale of the map is 8 miles to the inch...showing that this map is pre-metric Canada. Key points on the map, the low point on the Slave River at 573 feet to the high point at Mount Columbia 12,294 feet.

The map was designed and produced by the Surveys Branch, Department of Highways.
