The Smokey Valley Roller mill, built in 1898, is on the National Register of Historic Places. But before it was built another flour mill stood on this site, a wooden mill that used millstones instead of the modern roller milling process. In the early 1870's Charles Johnson with the help of his brother, Otto, built the original mill.

This millstone is a memorial to Otto Johnson placed here by his three daughters. The bronze plaque reads:

In Memory of
OTTO JOHNSON
who worked for is brother,
Charles J. Johnson at the Lindsborg
mill for six years and helped
to build the first mill and dam.
by his daughters
Edna O. Heline
Edith E. Johnson
