Fort Ward Museum is a nice air conditioned museum within the park site, with many Civil War related items including Civilian items. A restored battery is available to see with original earthwork mounds. The museum is spectator friendly and admission is free. Plenty of hiking or walking paths and restrooms available. Gift shop inside the museum carries Civil War related items. Picnic areas and shaded areas abound. Close to nearby Metro Station, restaurants and lodging nearby. Close to Washington, DC and the Potomac River. Many Civil War Living Histories occur here. See how Civil War soldiers live in a garrison type camp. Friendly staff and a great way to get away from crowds the more familiar Washington attractions.
