These two boats are located at the junction of the roads from Bättwil and Witterswil to Biel-Benken. They have different flowers planted, probably to promote the garden center that is located next to them, but there is no sign or any other clear advertising attribute.
The boats are of the type "Weidling", a traditional type in the north of Switzerland that dates back to Celtic times. They are a bit similar to punts in England but much larger and more stable; usually they are driven by stakes and large rows by two man standing in the bow and the tail. These two are both about 8 or 9 meters long.
It is very common for them to end up as flower pots or on children's playgrounds when they are taken out of service. I was still surprised to find them here more than ten kilometers from the next river that is large enough for a boat.
