Oslo is the capital of and most populous city in Norway. Founded around 1048 by King Harald III, the city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V around 1300.

City Hall (Radhuset) was opened in 1950. Decorated with motifs from norwegian history, culture and working life. The city's political and administrative leadership is based here, nobel Peace Prize is awarded 10 December. City Hall occasionally closes due to special events.

The roof of the eastern tower has a 49-bell carillon which plays (visit link) every hour. It is situated in Pipervika in central downtown Oslo.
