"Die dichte Sperrstelle mit dem Festungswerk Schollberg im Zentrum enthält am Nordrand eine Bunkerkette vom Rheinufer bei Trübbach bis zum Kurhaus am Alvier, begleitet von einem GPH Trübbach. Die Sperre besteht heute aus 3 Artilleriebeobachtern, 2 Geschützständen, 19 Infanteriebunkern, 14 Lmg-Ständen, 5 Mg-Ständen 2 Munitionsmagazinen und 28 Unterständen in Fels oder Beton, 2 GPH mit 22 Strassenbarrikaden und einer Bachsperre. Allein der Umfang der Werke zeigt die Bedeutung, hier wurde der Zugang in die Festung Sargans verteidigt. Das Artilleriewerk Schollberg gehört zur Sperre Sarganser Au.

Die Rekognoszierungen begannen im Februar 1939 für das GPH Schollberg, das von1944 mit den Flankierwerken beendet wurde. Diese Sperre diente dem Schutz des Talkessels von Sargans von Norden und Osten. In der nordwestlichen Verlängerung des GPH entstanden bis 1942 auf den Bergweiden des Alviers eine Gruppe von Bunkern und Unterständen, um eine Umgehung im Norden zu verhindern.
