This artistic seating is the work of the artist Olaf Manske.
It is called Hraun og menn, which means Lava and men. It is made of lava and was placed in 1999.
Heimaey is the largest island in the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, and the largest and most populated Icelandic island outside the main island of Iceland.
Heimaey is well known because of the Eldfell volcano. It formed a volcanic eruption which began without warning just outside the town on 23 January 1973.
