Cueva de Ambrosio is some 300 meters long cave located near the town of Varadero, on the Hicacos Peninsula in Cuba. This peninsula is composed of Holocene and late Pleistocene carbonate eolianites and reach 5 to 8 meters above sea level. The cave was carved by the sea, into a limestone cliff. It is composed by five interconnecting galeries with several entrances. These were probably formed by the hillside erosion which exposed the different branches of the cave system. The cave could be classified as a flank margin style and features several elements associated with caves formed in saltwater-freshwater mixing zone environments.
Since several thousands of bats live in the cave, it's floor is covered in guano.
The galleries of the caves are covered with 47 aboriginal pictographs in red and black and feature concentric circles and stylized human figures. During the colonial time period, the cave was a refuge for escaped slaves.
