Wat Sisaket is the oldest Buddhist temple in the capital of Lao, Vientiane. Built between 1819 and 1824 by the King of Vientiane, King Anou. Due to its prominence this was where the Lao aristocrats came to swear allegiance to the King. When the Siamese sacked Vientiane in 1828, they spared this temple, perhaps because it is built in a Thai style. The French restored the temple in 1924, and again around 1930.
The main feature of the temple is a roughly square cloister that encloses the ordination hall. In addition to being an operation temple, the hall contains a wide array of Buddhist historical artefacts, which together comprise the "Sisaket Museum".
Outside the entrance to the cloister there is a prominent historical sign, though not that easy to read, as it is a wood engraving. The text is given below. It recounts the history of the temple. The text is given "as is", with no attempt to correction:

Sisaket Museum was built in 1818 A.D. during the
reign of the King Anouvong, the last king of the Lao
Lanexang Kingdom, (Vientiane) after construction
completed it is about 10 years the foreign has
agression and destoyed the Lao lanexang (Vientiane)
after the war has over the Lao people has conservation
and restoration in the same architecture style
Sisaket Museum has restoration in 1935 A.D. as we have
seen at the present.
