- Quelle: Wikipedia

"The 1453 started the Church of St. Francis of Assisi was part of a Franciscan monastery. The nave, originally timber-roofed room was in 1796 converted by the Turks in a Imaret (arms-supply house) and used more recently for cultural events. Since its renovation in 1996 the building serves as the Byzantine Museum of Rethymno. A magnificent Renaissance portal on the north side dates from the Venetian period. on the grounds of the monastery in 1796, a Turkish girl's school was built, which gave way in 1890 a school building which now houses an urban elementary school.
