Der Glockenturm der Kirche steht getrennt von der Kirche auf der Südseite. Oberhalb der Rundbögenfenster befindet sich eine Uhr, darüber weitere Rundbogenfenster und das Stahlgestänge mit zwei Glocken.
"Die 1453 begonnene Kirche des Heiligen Franz von Assisi war Teil eines Franziskanerinnen-Klosters. Der einschiffige, ursprünglich holzgedeckte Raum wurde 1796 durch die Türken in ein Imaret (Armen-Speisehaus) umgewandelt und wird in neuerer Zeit für Kulturveranstaltungen genutzt. Seit der Renovierung 1996 dient das Gebäude als Byzantinisches Museum der Präfektur Rethymno. Ein prächtiges Renaissance-Portal an der Nordseite stammt aus der venezianischen Zeit. Auf dem Gelände des Klosters wurde 1796 eine türkische Mädchenschule errichtet, die 1890 einem Schulneubau wich, der heute eine städtische Grundschule beherbergt." - Quelle: Wikipedia
