| La noche del 9 de Julio de 1913 se abrieron las puertas aunque faltaban algunos detalles finales, en esta primera función se efectuó la entrega de premios a los ganadores de un campeonato de tiro al blanco. Un mes después, el sábado 9 de Agosto, la ciudad asistió con verdadero júbilo a la inauguración oficial del Teatro; se había contratado para esa noche a la compañia lírica italiana dirigida por el maestro Antonio Marranti, quien ofreció en cartelera la opera Aida de Guisseppe Verdi. |
| El proyecto del edificio estuvo a cargo de los arquitectos Jacques Dunant y Gastón Maller. Los constructores Bernasconi y Luisoni, fueron los responsables de hacer el edificio, comenzando la obra en 1911. |
| De estilo neoclásico, la fachada presenta un cuerpo central de ritmo impar con columnas de orden gigante y aventanamientos. Este cuerpo está flanqueado por dos volúmenes pequeños que le confieren unidad a la composición. De la misma manera, por encima del friso continuo con la inscripción de Teatro Municipal, una balaustrada hace de remate. |
| Interiormente, luego del hall y las escaleras de acceso, se pasa a la amplia sala, la cual se expresa exteriormente por la concavidad de sus paredes y la cubierta de chapa. |
| Cuenta además con salas de ensayo y talleres. Se destaca la sala ubicada en el primer piso, hacia el frente, denominada Sala Payró. |

Capacidad de la Sala: 850 localidades, distribuidas entre plateas, palco y paraíso, además del palco oficial.

History
The night of the 9 of Julio 1913 the doors opened up although they lacked some final details, in this first function the delivery of prizes was made the winners from a shot championship to the target.
