ENG: The Battle on the Marchfeld (i.e. Morava Field; Czech: Bitva na Moravském poli) at Dürnkrut and Jedenspeigen took place on August 26, 1278 and was a decisive event for the history of Central Europe for the following centuries. The opponents were a Bohemian (Czech) army led by the Premyslid king Ottokar II of Bohemia and the Imperial army under the German king Rudolph I of Habsburg in alliance with King Ladislaus IV of Hungary. Although both sides had in their units also infantry, the battle itself was primarily a great collision of heavy knights cavalry, though the Cuman horse archers in the Hungarian army played a vital role. The battle was finally won by an ambush attack of the united Imperial-Hungarian forces, which was in those times considered dishonourable and against the rules of knighthood.
CS: Bitva na Moravském poli byla svedena 26. srpna 1278 (na den sv. Rufa) v odpoledních hodinách na pravém brehu reky Moravy mezi vesnicemi Dürnkrut (Suché Kruty) a Jedenspeigen, ležícími v Dolních Rakousích 30 km jižne od Breclavi. V boji proti sobe stanula spojená vojska rímského krále Rudolfa I. Habsburského a uherského krále Ladislava IV. Kumána proti vojsku ceského krále Premysla Otakara II.
DE: Die Schlacht bei Dürnkrut und Jedenspeigen am 26. August 1278 – auch als Schlacht auf dem Marchfeld bekannt – wurde um das Erbe der Babenberger geschlagen; sie gilt als eine der größten Ritterschlachten Europas. Rudolf I. von Habsburg, der am 1. Oktober 1273 zum römisch-deutschen König gewählt worden war, stellte sich hier erfolgreich Ottokar II. entgegen und legte so den Grundstein für die Dynastie der Habsburger im Bereich des heutigen Österreich. Benannt ist die Schlacht nach den beiden Orten Dürnkrut und Jedenspeigen im Marchfeld in Niederösterreich, zwischen denen sie stattfand. In den beiden Gemeinden Dürnkrut und Jedenspeigen wird seit dem Jahr 2003, jeweils im Wechsel, im Gedenken an die Schlacht ein Mittelalterfest veranstaltet.
