Above the valley rises Rokštejn castle - the remains of two palaces and a massive square tower, 17 m high. The castle was first mentioned in 1289. Around the castle in 1359 connects to his estate Moravian Margrave Jan Jindrich. Between 1396 and 1399 the castle gets into the hands of House of Valdštejn. When it was destroyed during the Hussite wars, Valdštejns transferred its headquarters to Brtnice and left Rokštejn. Jan Jindrich made extensive remodeling of the object. The original castle remained essentially only the main tower, which was increased by another one. The newly built palace on the first floor had a large ceremonial hall, with which probably adjoined the chapel - in the sanctuary wall is preserved to this day. Upper Castle also surrounded the new wall, as well as the lower castle and a palace with a lower second square tower. State rooms on the lower floors of the two palaces adorned with embossed floor tiles. Hipped roof cover with pantiles. The castle was heated in this period by fireplaces and tiled stoves. The result of the reconstruction of Jan Jindrich, completed before 1380, was double-castle with moat, from which the gate in the northern fortification wall was entering the castle itself, a massive structure with three fortifications built a total area of ??almost 0.6 hectares. Valdštejns then after 1400 actually only completed the expanded space.
Originally the castle Rokštejn rescue archeological research was initiated in 1981. Today is one of the greatest explorations of this kind of medieval monuments, not only here but also in Central Europe. The head of research since the beginning of Prof.Zdenek Merínský PhD. (Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University in Brno).

In summer and winter tourists often come by bus from Jihlava and Trebíc to Brtnice, then walk or cross-country thru beautiful valley of Brtnice river downstream for about 8 km to Rokštejn. Then you can go about 2 km to the Prímelkov railway station or Dolní Smrcné and go back to Jihlava on iron rails. The touristic routes are marked with tourist signs.
