A garden area separates the Amalienborg Palace from the harbor. In the middle of the garden there is a large fountain. It is located so that it divides the garden into two equal rectangles. The fountain, designed by Italian Arnaldo Pomodoro, is aligned with the center of the palace plaza and placed so that it can be seen from both the palace grounds and the harbor. A nice view is obtained from the canal boat tours when the fountain. plaza and the dome of the Marble Church (Marmorkirken) align.
The fountain consists of a 50' diameter granite basin with numerous jets of water shooting up. The outside jets are tiltled towards the center while the center jets go straight up. The water in the center reaches a height of 25 feet.
