The St. Cornelius' Episcopal Church was built in 1898. In 1888 a group of citizens met to form a church in Dodge City. A mission was formed. In 1896 land for the church was purchased for $50. The stone for the church was donated as it was salvaged from Strum's Ice House. The lumber, windows, and hardware were purchased at wholesale prices. Groundbreaking for the church was February 7, 1898 and the church was consecrated September 11, 1898. The total cost of the church was $1,200. The church is in a Gothic Revival style with a corner tower which serves as the entrance to the church. The building was built by Dodge City builder A.B. Metcalfe based on plans by Milwaukee architect William B. Kimball, most likely selected from a pattern book available during that time.

The church has received additions over the years but the original church building has retained it historic character and continues to serve its active congregation.
