The City of Canning is a large municipal district in the Southeast Metropolitan Region of Perth, and has it's base in Cannington.

The Coat of Arms features a shield with a Lion Rampant and Western Australia's State Symbol the Black Swan, over water which is symbolic of Canningtons strong relationship with water and particularly the nearby Canning River. This is topped by a turreted shape as a crown, and the whole is supported by a larger Black Swan Rampant and Lion Rampant standing on a scroll bearing the City motto "Above All Service".

The following information is taken from Wikipedia following their Re-use of text guidelines:

"In 1871, the Canning Road District was established under the District Roads Act 1871, covering a very wide area to the southeast of Perth. On 1 July 1907, it was abolished and split into the Queen's Park Municipal District and Gosnells Road District (later to become the City of Gosnells). In 1921, Queen's Park was renamed to Canning Road District, and two years later received a large amount of land from Jandakot Road District when that entity was abolished.

On 1 July 1961, Canning Road District became a Shire under the Local Government Act 1960. In 1970 it became a Town and in 1978 it attained City status."

The cultural heritage of Canning Town Hall was recognised in 1997 when the building was entered on the Heritage Council of Western Australia's register of Heritage Places with permanent status.

Cannington is the main shopping hub between Perth and Armadale, with Carousel Shopping Centre as it's centrepiece.
