Der Mellaunerhof ist ein uralter gotischer Bau mit barocker Fassade und war einst eine Poststation.

Ob er tatsächlich das älteste Wirtshaus Tirols ist, sei dahingestellt - zu den allerschönsten des Landes zählt er aber auf jeden Fall!
Erwähnt wird der Mellauner erstmals im Jahre 1291 - aufgrund der Bausubstanz mag er in wesentlichen Grundzügen aber auch wesentlich älter sein. Wie er genutzt wurde, weiß man nicht, aber sein mächtiges Auftreten spricht für einen herrschaftlichen Ansitz. Genauer wird die Historie dann im 17. Jahrhundert, wo das Haus als Post- und Einkehrgasthof mit dem Recht zur Ausschank auftaucht. Ein Gastronomiebetrieb, der als dezidiert solcher also auch schon etwa vierhundert Jahre auf dem Buckel hat.
Und das Alter und die famose Architektur ist es dann auch auch, der den Mellauner zu etwas Besonderem macht. Mit Hilfe der deutschen Messerschmitstiftung, die sich überhaupt in Tirol so manches Verdienst erworben hat, wurde die Bausubstanz saniert, renoviert und mit viel Liebe zum Detail in ein wahres Juwel verwandelt. Der Wirt, Josef Abfalterer, weiß darum: er bietet Führungen durchs Haus an. Die verschiedenen Säle, Stuben, der Weinkeller, die rußgeschwärzte Selch, die sich durch das Haus bis ganz nach oben zieht....für einige Zeit verschwindet man tatsächlich aus der Gegenwart - und ist dankbar dafür." - Quelle: (
