This market takes place six days a week, from early in the morning until around midday; closed Sunday. I believe it's open year round; in any case, it was operating in March when I visited. It's located in the Piazza di San Cosimato in the Trastevere neighborhood of Rome.
Fruit and vegetable stands occupy the middle of the open square; a line of stalls along the north side of the square sell fresh fish (including the best-tasting fish I have ever eaten!), cheese, salume, and fresh meat. (One of the stalls is devoted exclusively to horse meat. I, um, "forgot" to taste any of that....)
The sellers are very friendly and willing to put up with foreigners like me who don't speak much Italian. The cheese guy was especially nice about helping me correct my very fractured Italian phrase-book conversation :-)
