National Center for the Namdo Performing Arts
While on a scenic drive around the edge of the island of Jindo on the south coast of Korea, this amazing facility comes as a surprise. The highway entrance is adorned with this gleaming clock and gorgeous landscaping. The
National Center for the Namdo Performing Arts is a research and training center dedicated to the preservation of a wide range of traditional Korean performing arts ranging from ancient shamanistic rituals to Korea drumming and dance forms. There are performance venues and residential facilities for participants.
The clock and its mounting is made of brushed aluminum, standing about 15 feet (5m) tall. The clock itself, mounted on the top, is a simpler round face, white with black Roman numerals. The stylized mounting has the name of the institution in vertical format. The horizontal element is a frame in the shape of a traditional Korean drum. There is a small solar panel mounted on the top.
