This big turtle was crossing Co. Rd. K30 north of Rock Valley as we were driving north. Another car was coming the opposite direction, and I watched in my rear-view mirror as he straddled the critter on his way into town. Turning around to make a rescue, I pulled over on the shoulder and my husband attempted to pick up the slow moving creature. It panicked and squirmed violently so he put it down and gently nudged it with his foot in the direction it was headed. Wasting no time, it disappeared in the grasses and went on its way before I could get another photo.
