This station serves the large city of Kunming (4 million), in south west China. It is big. Lots of people. Lots of bustle. From here one can travel fairly much to anywhere in China, to Beijing, to the east coast, or further west. The ticket counters are to the right (facing the station). Tickets can be purchased here in advance (I suggest 1-2 days at least, it is a busy station), or from hotels in the city. The main entrance to board a train is centre, the exit is to the left. As you enter, as with all train and bus stations in China, your bags and yourself will be scanned.
There are a sizeable number of eateries, large and small, and other shops in a wide variety. Also taxis and buses pulling into the station entrance.
I did not photograph the interior, lots of guards were looking at me.
Carry a copy of your destination written in Chinese, don't rely on your transliteration, no telling where you might end up.
