The Glenrowan Cobb & Co Museum is a large underground cellar museum specialising in the "Kelly Outbreak" and other notorious Australian Bushrangers. The building is a replica of the original Cobb & Co Change Station which was on or near this site.
The museum is located in Gladstone Street, across the road from the Glenrowan Tourist Centre, and 60 metres from a 6 metre high statue of Ned Kelly. It is open daily from 9am to 5.30 pm.
Surprisingly the only signage is a banner proclaiming 'Museum Open'.
Glenrowan is famous for the bushranger Ned Kelly, who made his last stand and was eventually captured there in 1880 after a siege and shootout with police. From there he was taken to Beechworth, where he was tried, found guilty of multiple murders, sentenced to death, and hanged.
Beechworth and Ned Kelly are notable in my own family tree, because one of my ancestors, Elijah Upjohn, was the executioner who hanged Ned Kelly, Australia's most notorious bushranger, who is revered as a "folk hero" despite his conviction and execution for murder.
