According to wikipedia Athenaeum may refer to Periodicals, Clubs and societies, Cultural centers, Libraries, Museums, Performance halls and theaters, Schools and Other uses.

Built in 1878 to house 3000 books for the local book club, the Athenaeum was the social and intellectual centre of Yackandandah. There were two reading rooms, a few stuffed birds, and a boomerang or two. A full sized slate billiard table was installed in 1899.

From this we can see that the Athenaeum in Yackandandah can claim the name for it's original use by Clubs and societies, Cultural centers, and Libraries.

The Yackandandah Athenaeum, notable for the Temple composition of the facade, now houses the Tourist Information Centre.

The Athenaeum is located at 29 High Street, Yackandandah Victoria Australia 3749.
