Morské Oko (Sea Eye) called also Great Vihorlat Lake, situated within the Vihorlat Mts. conservation area in East Slovakia, is one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the Central Europe and also unique natural monument.
Surrounded by woods of Vihorlat, the surface of Morské Oko reflects mysteriously 618 m above sea level, with the area of 13.8 ha and water surface of 750 m long and approx. 25 m deep lake with waters from the pure surrounding streams. The lake provides home for trouts, minnows and perches.
The origin of the lake is conencted with residual volcanic activity in Vihorlat Mountains and is unique among European volcanic mountain ranges. A massive landslide from slopes of Motrogon Mt. and Jedlinka Mt. blocked Okno creek valley resulting this natural lake.
