Commissioned by Sterling Morton in 1960 at the urging of his daughter Suzette Morton Davidson, these four columns anchor the eastern edge of the Hedge Collection at the
Morton Arboretum (entrance fee required).
If they represent something, nobody really knows. They could be symbolic of the four seasons of the year, or four pillars of salt (the industry from which the Morton family attained its wealth), or even, as Suzette Morton Davidson once said, the four Morton brothers.
