The Dry Creek Salt Pans were establised in 1940 by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), and have grown from 810ha to 4000ha.
ICI sold the Salt Pan operations to Penrice Soda Products in 1989. In 2005 Penrice was purchased by Ridley Corp. Ltd and are now run by Cheetham Salt, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ridley Corp.

Pumping stations along the coast pump the salt water into the pans, and then the sun provides the free solar evapouration leaving the salt behind to be harvested.
The harvested salt is redissolved and then pumped to Osborne (across the Port River) for the manufacture of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate.
The provided coordinates are along the Northern boundary of the salt fields, just across a small bridge providing vehicle access to the Northern ponds.
