The name of RANSKO itself suggests there used to be tilt-hammers around.( Hammer- and iron bloom processing blows could be heard far and wide.) / the Czech for „a blow“ is „rána“/. The local region was rich in high-grade ores, and on top of it there were large deciduous forests, the beech tree prevailing.The ores were processed here as early as the 14th century.The first ever records of metallurgical activities in our region are the sale contracts between master – hammermen.At the beginning of 17th century (1630 to be precise) the local hammer mills are passed to the noble house of the Ditterichsteins. The steelworks was thriving in keeping with the fact of its in/sufficient supplies of raw materials necessary to produce iron.
The foundry has a long tradition in Nové Ransko. The statue of founder installed in front of the foundry and pattern shop is a work of Bretislav Benda (1897-1983) and it was placed in CKD foundry in Prague. In the early 1990's it was put into the scrap. From here it was aved and transported to Nové Ransko. In 1996 it was erected in front of local foundry.
