The city of Montgomery was incorporated in 1819 and became the state capital in 1846. It served as the first capital of the Confederate States of America for a few months before that government moved to Richmond, Virginia. In the twentieth century, Montgomery became a center for civil rights with the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The city has embraced its past and has incorporated both the Confederacy and Civil Rights in its tourist materials, emblem and flag. More information on the history of Montgomery can be found at: (visit link)

There is a drawing on the Flags of the World web page, but it appears the municipal flag has been slightly modified from the one shown in the drawing: (visit link)

Lagoon Park is located on land that was once part of Gunter Air Force Base, which was itself once the first Montgomery Municipal Airport. The airport was acquired by the United States government in World War II as a training facility and named after the late mayor who had championed air travel. The Golf Course where this flag is located is a public 18-hole course.
