An earlier wooden bridge constructed at near this site in 1900 measured 4,740 feet long and for a time was the longest bridge in the United States, bearing the nickname, "The Mile Long Wooden Bridge." REF: Wikipedia: Hampton Bridge.

The current steel and concrete bridge was constructed in 1949 and refurbished in 1984. This bascule drawbridge has one moveable span and twelve approach spans, with a length of 1,200 feet. REF: Mass Roads.

Hampton Beach is a popular summer destination on New Hampshire's short coastline. But, this bridge is also the best view point for the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant across the estuary to the east.
