‘The Boomerang’ is an iconic office building designed in the 1960’s by the well known Dutch architect H.A. Maaskant (1907 – 1977).

The architecture of the building was very progressive for its time: the exterior consists of profiled concrete with large teak fronts, while the interior is dominated by a dramatic blue ceiling with numerous spotlights to create a ‘starry sky’ effect. The building is on the municipal list of monuments.

Johnson wax building
Dutch headquarters of American company S.C. Johnson (formerly Johnson Wax) in Mijdrecht, the Netherlands. The space age building was designed by Dutch architect Maaskant and was finished in 1964. It’s very unusual to come across buildings like this in the Netherlands, especially in a village like Mijdrecht. The monumentality, the grand formal gesture, and the expressive, sculptural shape seem to be quite ‘undutch’.
