This marker stone was erected in 1818 on French soil as a auxiliary trigonometric point to determine the exact point of the border between the Grand Duchy of Baden and Switzerland in the middle of the river Rhine. This point is now the tripoint between France, Germany and Switzerland.

The marker is located at the back wall of a factory near the west bank of the Rhine. The bronze plaque was added in 1988.
