The building looks like an old castle, but it was planned and built as a prison from 1901 to 1904. There were 15 cells designed for 24 inmates but the real occupancy sometimes was up to 40 persons.

The prison closed in 1970 and was abandoned for about ten years. In 1979 it was renovated and converted into a youth center that opened in spring 1981.
