Naarden's Town Hall was an important building. Before being replaced it served since 1601 as the local government seat of the area called Het Gooi. Since its retirement, it is in use now, among others, as a wedding hall. During the Naarden Foto Festival, a biannual event for photography, it is used as an exhibition room, and is open to the public. The Town Hall or Oude Stadhuis has retained its Dutch Renaissance charm, while the roof is shaped in the old style - stair-shaped steps on both sides.
The old town of Naarden itself is the only fortified town in the world that has two rings of star shaped defence lines, designed by Adrian Dortsman. It is a beautiful town, with plenty of exclusive shops and restaurants, where many of its original buildings and houses have been refurbished.
