The first railway-brigde between Urmitz and Engers has been build at the end of World-War I between 1916 and 1918 as a strategic connection between both sides of the River Rhine. It was constructed as an arch-bridge. It connects the cities of Neuwied (west of the bridge on the right side of the right side of the river) and Koblenz and even today you can see the planned connection to Engers which is east of the bridge on the right side of the river.

In its first years the bridge has been called `Kronprinz-Wilhelm-Brücke` but today it known as Eisenbahnbrücke Urmitz.

After this bridge has been blast away at the end of World-War II, it
has been rebuild in the years between 1953 and 1954 and was reconstructed using the square framework You can see on the pictures.

The total length of the bridge is 430m and the maximum span width is 188m. Three piles placed in the River Rhine supports the double tracked bridge. A pedestrian path, also usable by bicycles, leads to other side of the River Rhine.

A railway station has been build on the Urmitz side of the bridge and You can find also parking places for Your car there. Public transport by bus is also available.
