The sand is very fine and flat. Properties which made Pendine a centre for breaking land speed records in the 1920's. John Godfrey Parry Thomas and Malclom Campbell competed against each other to try and beat each others World Speed records.

The beach is owned by the Ministry of defence, therfore most of the beach is closed to the public, on weekdays, but is often open on weekends, which makes it a haven for Wildlife.

The birds that are often seen wintering in the shallow seas are Scoters, with Fulmers nesting in the Cliffs, & Perigrin Falcons.

You can spot Wild Orchids, and rare Marshland Plants on the marshy areas at the Laugharne end of the sands.

For walkers and beachcombers there is a coastal path, towards Amroth where you can see many of the plants & creatures shown on the plaque.
