These fossile trees were a species called Sigillaria, and were found in April 1833, at Cwm Llech near Coelbren, in the Vale of Swansea.

The fossil trees were discovered by William E. Logan, they were found
just above a seam of coal in a bed of shale, The fossiles would have been part of a primeval forest of gigantic trees.
