House of Wettin
House of Wettin is an old German dynasty which ruled Saxony for more than eight hundred years. The dynasty was founded by Thiedericus in 10th century but the memorial commemorates year 1089 when the dynasty acquired the March of Meissen from Roman Emperor Henry IV.
House of Wettin have many branches. The most famous is House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha which was later renamed to House of Windsor and is still the royal dynasty in the United Kingdom.
