Anchor in display in Cais da Vala - Salvaterra de Magos.
Cais da Vala is an old Royal Canal used during centuries to connect Salvaterra to the Tagus river and downtown Lisbon. The Portuguese kings always travelled trough the "Vala" to get to the Royal Palace in Salvaterra de Magos.
Today, the Vala Real is still used by local inhabitants to fish and recreational purposes and near this location there´s a boat ramp and a modern quay.
The anchor is displayed on the top of a pedestal and is connected to a winch by a chain and is an hommage from the population to the "Seamen".
