In Canton, on the tallest peak along the east coast south of Portland, Maine - OK, a whole 634 feet - is a chairlift for the Blue Hill Ski Area.

Blue Hill Ski Area is an operation that is within the Blue Hills Reservation, a state owned (Department of Conservation and Recreation) parkland that is just outside of the Boston city limits to the south. The ski area has been around since the 1960s, according to their web site. Over the years, several organizations have managed the operations, with the latest operating both here and Campgaw Mountain in Mahwah, NJ. The focus at both places is a place for family fun.

The vertical drop of the ski resort is 309 ft. The hill has twelve trails to take with three levels of difficulty - though, due to the low snow accumulations this year, not all the trails were open. There is a trail specifically suited to snowboarders, called the Terrain Trail. Blue Hill has the ability to make snow on 90% of the trails, but, of course, it has to be cold enough to make snow. Since it is within 4 miles of the coast, the relatively warm temperatures can make this a challenge, especially 2011-2012. There are four 'lifts' available - two are 'magic carpets' (conveyor belt), one tow line, and the double chair lift. In addition to daytime skiing, night time skiing is available as well.

The double chair lift is located on the far right of the slopes. The lifts are on the edge of the woods in the furthest right trail (not open that day).
