An outdoor whispering gallery. Two red dishes, resembling satellite dishes are set looking at each other approximately 50 feet apart. When a person whispers into one of the dishes any person at the other dish can hear what was said.
Scientific Principle(s) being demonstrated:
Demonstrates sound how sound waves, when organized together (by the disk) can travel and be heard along one line, and not heard to the left, right, above or below.
Briefly explain if the experiment was effective for you. Could it have been better?:
I was standing beyond the receiving dish, along the same line and heard the child at the distant dish clearly. The dish is needed to organize the sound waves sent, but the receiver need only be along the line, not just at one of the two dishes.
