Also known as the Gate of Noon, the Ngo Mon is the main gate to the Imperial City located within the citadel of Hue.

The gate is divided into two levels: the stone and brick fortress-like base structure and the palace-like upper level.
The ground level has five entrances. The center passageway through the gate was reserved for the use of the emperor only. The two adjacent entrances were reserved for mandarins and the two small arched entrances on the side were for soldiers and commoners.
Built in 1833 in the traditional Vietnamese Nguyen style, it was used by the sovereign as an observation point for major court ceremonies.
The Nguyen dynasty ended in August 1945 when Emperor Bao Dai abdicated to a delegation sent by Ho Chi Minh's provisional government.
