The market cross in Northallerton has a metal plaque describing its movements. The cross was re-erected here in 1914.

The cross was re-erected in 1914 after being taken down in 1873. A public subscription was raised to pay for the new location and dedication to Mr. W S Charlton who "rendered many services" between "1883 to 1913 to the town and district of Northallerton".

This would suggest the cross was made before 1873.
