Sutton Bank is an inland cliff rising 200 metres at the edge of the Vale of York. A giant glacier carved the cliff out of the surrounding rock. There a simple grass airfield nearby, operated by the Yorkshire Gliding Club. The Cleveland Way long distance footpath passes this memorial.

The memorial reads.
"1939 1945
This plaque is a memorial to the aircrews of all allied nations who lost their lives in the surrounding countryside. Not least the crew of the Halifax bomber JD105 10 squadron Melbourne which crashed within half a mile of this site, May 5 1943.

Also in memory of the pilot of an F86 Sabre XD733 92 squadron Linton-on-Ouse September 21 1954

Lest we forget"

Three of the aircrew of the Halifax survived but unfortunately died in service. (visit link)

Even today pilots are crashing in to Sutton Bank.
